Key
Responsibilities
Communications
Develop and implement communications materials and strategies
aligned with the Thunderbird Collective’s mission and priorities.Draft and edit a range of communications products, including
website content, press releases, announcements, reports, and promotional
materials.Ensure all communications are clear, engaging, culturally
respectful, and tailored to diverse audiences.
Social Media
Work with the Secretariat to implement and update our social
media strategy aligned with organizational values and objectives.Manage branded social media channels and support audience
growth and engagement across platforms.Create, schedule, and manage engaging content for platforms
such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok.Monitor social media trends and respond to inquiries, and
engage with followers in a respectful, timely and meaningful manner, including
moderating comments where required.Track and report social media metrics and prepare performance
reports
Website Oversight
Maintain and update website content, ensuring
current, accurate and engaging written, visual and multimedia materials.Support the ongoing organization and management of digital communications assets.
Monitor site analytics and recommend improvements.
Media and Public Relations
Coordinate interviews, media requests and background briefs with the Secretariat and leadership.
Help develop key messaging, briefing notes, speaking notes,
and communications approaches related to Thunderbird Collective initiatives and
activities.Build and maintain positive working relationships with media
contacts and communications partners where appropriate.Support crisis communication and issue management as required.
Track media coverage and prepare summaries.
Community Engagement
Assist with facilitation of respectful and culturally
grounded communication between the Thunderbird Collective and external
audiences.Support in the development of engagement materials for
Thunderbird Collective grant program (updates, invitations, announcements).Coordinate external outreach and engagement activities, which
may include webinars, gatherings, meetings, and public-facing events. Build and
maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, partners, practitioners,
and stakeholders.Support internal coordination and information sharing across
the Thunderbird Collective Steering Committee, Secretariat, and Working Groups.

Requirements
Minimum 3 years’ experience in communications, public relations, or digital engagement, including social media management.
Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences.
Experience coordinating communications projects and managing multiple priorities independently.
Experience in community engagement, relationship-building, or public outreach.
Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures, values, governance systems, and community priorities.
Experience managing website management and working with website platforms is an asset.
Experience with graphic design and communications tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote and fast-paced environment.
Preference will be given to Indigenous applicants.
