Living Environment Worker for English-speaking Indigenous Clientele (Nunavik)Full-Time

The Living Environment Worker contributes to creating and maintaining a stimulating, stable, respectful, and culturally adapted living environment tailored to the specific needs of each user (extended respite and temporary housing – 1 month to 1 year), with a strong focus on direct intervention, safety, and well-being.

They ensure a safe, compassionate, and professional environment for users of all ages with physical disabilities (PD), intellectual disabilities (ID), or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in collaboration with the rest of the team and the nurse.

Fluency in English is required for this position.

Main Responsibilities

1. Intervention and Support

·       Maintain an active and attentive presence with users during work shifts.

·       Create routines and activity schedules to provide unique and enriching experiences for users.

·       Observe and document behaviors, needs, or changes in condition (e.g., anxiety, insomnia, crisis) and share this information with the rest of the team.

·       Implement Individualized Intervention Plans (IIPs) developed by clinical coordination, adapting strategies to immediate needs (e.g., calming routines, crisis management).

·       Assist with mobility, nighttime awakenings, bathroom assistance, etc.

·       Collaborate with the nurse on medical matters (e.g., scheduled evening medication administration, reporting symptoms).

2. Collaboration and Communication

·       Collaborate with counselors/activity leaders (present on weekends) for special activities or outings.

·       Inform the coordinator of any issues requiring follow-up.

3. Compliance with Standards and Cultural Approach

·       Adopt an approach that respects Inuit realities (e.g., culturally sensitive vocabulary, awareness of cultural taboos, openness to traditional practices).

·       Participate in training sessions on cultural safety and the specific needs of users from Nunavik.

·       Adhere to internal policies (e.g., intervention framework, confidentiality, conflict-of-interest management).

Working Conditions

·       Rotating 8-hour shifts: 7:30 AM–3:30 PM, 3:30 PM–11:30 PM, 11:30 PM–7:30 AM.

·       Balanced rotation to prevent burnout and support work-life balance for evening and night shifts.

·       Location: Lac-Beauport, with potential occasional travel (e.g., medical accompaniments). Personal vehicle/mode of transportation required for this role.

·       Ongoing training (e.g., cultural safety, crisis management).

·       Access to facilities and activities (e.g., respite, wellness).

·       Natural environment fostering outdoor activities.
