Bhakta Prahlad Montessori School is seeking an Early Childhood Educator to join our teaching team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children across multiple age groups and appreciates the variety that comes with being part of a growing school.
Working alongside experienced Montessori educators, the successful candidate will primarily support our Montessori Casa classrooms (ages 2.5 to 6 years), with opportunities to contribute to our lower elementary program and before and after school care, depending on qualifications, experience, and the needs of the school.
Qualifications and experience in the Vaishnava Bhakti tradition (ISKCON) is an asset. The ideal candidate is charismatic, builds respectful relationships with children, has a natural ability to understand others’ needs, is flexible and able to adapt to the needs of the program that come with working in a close-knit school community rather than that within a traditional school model.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will vary based on qualifications and experience and may include:
Support, create or implement a curriculum that promotes children's physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and practical life development.
Lead or assist with the daily operation of a Montessori Casa classroom.
Prepare and maintain a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment using Montessori principles and incorporating values of the Vaishnava Bhakti tradition.
Observe children's interests, behaviour, and developmental progress, maintaining accurate records and documentation.
Assess children's abilities and discuss observations and progress with families and colleagues.
Support children's independence, concentration, confidence, and positive social interactions through respectful guidance.
Guide children in developing practical life skills, self-care routines, conflict resolution, and self-regulation.
Lead or participate in activities including storytelling, music, art, outdoor learning, movement
Support lower elementary students with classroom routines and learning activities, where appropriate.
Plan and organize activities for school-age children attending our before and after school program.
Assist children with eating, dressing, toileting, diapering, handwashing, rest periods, and other daily care routines as needed.
Prepare snacks and assist with meal routines.
Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and learning resources.
Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all children while following licensing requirements and school policies.
Communicate professionally with parents regarding children's daily experiences and developmental progress.
Participate in staff meetings, collaborative planning, and ongoing professional development.
Requirements
Qualifications
Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE) and registration (or eligibility for registration) with the College of Early Childhood Educators, or
Montessori Certification, Teacher's Diploma, or Bachelor's Degree in Education with relevant experience
Experience working within a school aligned with the bhakti tradition, including the ability to lead and teach daily mantra meditation and the study of vedic texts such as the Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-Gita
Experience working with children
Assets
Experience working in a Montessori classroom
Knowledge of Montessori pedagogy
Knowledge of Vedic philosophy
Experience volunteering/working in an ISKCON environment.
Knowledge of Vaisnava culture; familiarity of its activities and operations
Experience working with children across multiple age groups
Ability to storytell, play and teach musical instruments, drama and visual arts
