About the Role

As Chief Executive Officer, you will set the strategic direction and operational foundation for the organization, ensuring stability while advancing a vision for decentralized, community-based service delivery.   Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will be responsible for evaluating and strengthening existing services before considering expansion, aligning with the Chief’s directive for local, culturally relevant care.

Fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust, the Chief Executive Officer will balance administrative responsibilities with a strong commitment to direct service delivery. Through influential leadership, mentorship, and a collaborative approach, you will rally the team around a shared vision, champion Indigenous recruitment, workforce retention, and focus on building capacity within the organization. By fostering professional growth and development, you will also lead the integration of performance measurement systems to drive continuous improvement and enhance service delivery. At the heart of this role is relationship building – you will play a key role in strengthening relationships with Chiefs, staff, government agencies and external partners, ensuring that the organization is responsive to community needs and aligned with the principles of Truth & Reconciliation.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership & Governance: Implement a strategic plan that prioritizes decentralization, community-based service delivery, and alignment between governance and operations guided by key performance measurement systems.
• Operational & Organizational Management: Assess and stabilize the organization’s size and structure, enhance recruitment and retention of Indigenous staff, and balance efficiency with impactful service delivery.
• Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with Chiefs, government agencies, and community leaders while fostering an inclusive, transparent, and culturally sensitive organizational culture.
• Cultural Sensitivity & Emotional Intelligence: Lead with empathy, ability to understand and address intergenerational trauma and lateral violence, while ensuring programs align with Truth and Reconciliation principles and Indigenous child welfare priorities.
• Funding & Resource Development: Secure sustainable funding, strengthen relationships with funding agencies, and explore research opportunities to assess and improve service integration effectiveness.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader with a deep understanding of First Nations governance, communities, and the social, economic, and cultural realities they navigate. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in executive leadership within First Nation organizations, social services, or community-based programs, with expertise in strategic planning, organizational development, and service integration.
